Lagos which is most populated has 20 LGAs, Ogun has 20, while Kano has 40 and Jigawa has 27
-Bode George
Bode George, former military Governor of Ondo State and chieftain of the PDP, has highlighted disparities in local government allocation in Nigeria.
In a video recently shared on YouTube by Channels TV, George questioned the fairness of Lagos State having only 20 local government areas (LGA) despite being the most populated state, while neighboring Ogun State, with a smaller population, also has 20 LGAs
George stated that Kano State, the next largest after Lagos, boasts 44 LGAs, while Jigawa, a State created from Kano has 27.
He raised concerns about monthly allocations from the Federation Account, as LGAs draw funds based on their numbers.
In George’s words: “Imagine Lagos State is the most populated state in this country, electorally it is the largest electoral state in this country we have only 20 LGA. Ogun State which is next door, they are not comparable with the population and the people and they also have 20 LGA.
While Kano which is the next largest State in Nigeria has 44 LGAs, then Jigawa that was created from Kano also has 27 LGAs and every month they all head to Abuja, LGAs draw money from the Federation Account so where is the justice and fairness”
