IFE – (Ife Central, Ife East, Ife South, Ife North)
OYO – (Iwo, Irewole, Isokan, Ede North & South, Ola Oluwa, Aiyedire, Ejigbo Etc)
IJESA – (Ilesa East & West, Atakumosa East & West, Oriade, Obokun)
OWU – (Aiyedaade)
IGBOMINA – (Ila, Ifedayo)
IBOLO – (Odo Otin)
There are some significant overlap among the subgroups and the local governments where they can be found, for example, some Oyo can be found in the Ife local government lands around the Origbo Meje axis in Ife North and Modakeke, while some ijesha elements can be found in Bolorunduro LG towns like Igbajo, Iresi, Ada and Otan Ayegbaju.
In addition, The Ibolos were historically a constituted province of the Oyo empire. Ikire and Apomu (Irewole & Isokan) have a substratum of original Ife heritage, but today they are majorly Oyo speaking, the links are undeniable. After Oyo ile was abandoned, millions of Oyo migrated southwards towards the Ife forests and became a demographic majority in many original Ife towns.
Osogbo used to be a purely ijesha town, same as how Ikire, Apomu, Gbongan etc were Ife. At any rate, the river Shasha was the agreed boundary between the ifes and the Ibadans in 1908. Erin Osun is also Ibolo and they are in Irepodun Local Government
