The Commissioner of Police, CP, Imo State Command, Aboki Danjuma, has condemned the killing of personnel of Mopol 18, Owerri, by gunmen.
A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Okoye Henry, stated that the slain officers were ambushed in the early hours of Saturday while on along Old Gariki Road, Okigwe, by unknown gunmen who attacked them with dynamite.
He disclosed that the security men responded immediately engaging the attackers in a gun battle which led to the death of two officers while four survived the attack.
Okoye stated that the CP in his immediate reaction to the incident, alongside the Commander Mopol 18 and 64, led an operation spearheaded by the Command’s Special Tactical Unit to the scene of the crime for on the spot assessment and asked the operatives to go all out in synergy to ensure that those responsible for attack are apprehended to face the wrath of the Law.
In addition, the Assistance Commissioner of Police in charge of Okigwe, the DPO and other Tactical Units stationed in Okigwe have been charged by the Commissioner of Police to embark on visibility patrol, intelligence led raids of criminal hideouts and place water tight surveillance to forestall any future occurrence.
“The CP calls on the general public particularly, the residents of Okigwe who may have useful information that may assist the police in the investigation to kindly report at nearest police station or via 08034773600,08103341610.
“He urges the residents to go about their lawful business without any form of fear or intimidation and not panic at the sight of the massive deployment of security operatives in Okigwe and urged them to support the police and other security agencies in the onslaught against violent crimes in the State,” the statement said.
The CP also condoled the families, friends and loved ones of the deceased officers.
He maintained that under his watch, the Command will not condone any form of attack on security personnel in the state.
