Leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party in Southwest region met with the critical stakeholders of the party in Ekiti on Friday where the party leaders resolved to reconcile to work together to provide credible opposition in the state
The state party chairman, Engr Alaba Agboola flanked by other members of the State Working Committee received the delegation in Ado Ekiti
Present at the meeting included former Acting Governor, Rt. Hon Tunji Odeyemi; former deputy governors, Prof Kolapo Olusola Eleka and Dr Sikiru Tae Lawal
Also present were Senator Duro Faseyi; former National Treasurer, Wale Aribisala; former Rep members, Kehinde Odebunmi, Chief Akin Awodumila; former Speaker and members of state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Kola Oluwawole, Dr Omotoso and Wale Ayeni.
Speaking after the meeting, the party’s spokesman, Chief Sanya Atofarati said the move was made to reinvigorate winning mechanisms in the state while commending the party leadership in the state for their commitment to party ideals and readiness to work together to return the party to winning streak.
The party debunked speculations that the party may be having pact with the ruling APC, saying the PDP was putting measures in place to unseat the incumbent governor Oyebanji at the next ballot.
“With the political status of leaders witnessed here today, it is unambiguous to say the leadership of the PDP in Ekiti State are ready. These are the owners of the party and reputable leaders who have contributed immensely to the growth of this state through their public service. We understand that reconciliation is a process and not a destination. We shall continue the regular discussions and consultations as we move on but one thing is achieved today and that is the leaders resolve to prioritize party’s interest over and above all other interests.”
The Zonal Chairman, Ajisafe read the riots act to members alleged of anti party activities across the six states of the region saying the PDP will not hesitate to sanction any members found wanting of act capable of bringing the party to disrepute.
