The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Abuja zone has expressed sorrow over the de@ths of 46 academics due to economic hardship, poor remuneration, and unfavorable working conditions.
They highlighted the recent loss of Professor Johnson Oyero at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, due to lack of access to quality medical care.
ASUU criticized the government, led by President Tinubu, for failing to honor commitments made to prevent industrial actions in universities.
Despite promises from the Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, to increase salaries and exempt university academics from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), ASUU claims the government has not fulfilled its promises.
They urge the government to implement agreements, including salary increases and payment of arrears, and exempt universities from IPPIS.
