As the preparation towards parties primary election draws nearer, there lies in the offing a big surprise as one of those regarded feather weight might spring to surprise to emerge at the expense of the big names. The calibre and pedigree of aspirants who shall emerge as candidates of the two major political parties in Ondo State might be indelible in the anal of history of Ondo State.
The Labour party (LP) might be a different ball game as Alhaji Abbas Mimiko might likely emerge as the party consensus candidate.
In the People’s Democratic party (PDP), it will be a tough battle with the likes of Chief Olusola Ebiseni, Hon. Abayomi Sheba, Engr. Adeolu Akinwumi, His Excellency Agboola Ajayi, Hon. John Ola Mafo and Balogun Eyitayo Jegede, SAN are prepared to slog it out. What might likely stand as alibi of Eyitayo Jegede emergence is the fact that he hails from Ondo Central from where he has been the candidate of the party in the last two consecutive race. Other aspirants are from Ondo South Senatorial District.
Within the All Progressives Congress (APC), the likes of His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa who happens to be the incumbent Governor, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, a sitting Senator, Immediate past Commissioner of Finance in Ondo State, Mr. Wale Akinterinwa, Chief Olusola Oke, SAN and Rt.Hon. Mayowa Akinfolarin, former member of Ondo State House of Assembly and former member of the House of Representatives among others are seen as frontrunners.
However on the field, the narrative is changing fast with the approach and manner at which Brigadier General Felix Olamide Ohunyeye stormed the scene.
The military top brass turned politician was the cynosure of all eyes as his campaign train hit Ose Local Government on Monday February 12, 2024.
The turnout of party leaders and members who came to receive the Ilutitun born General was unprecedented as they hanged on the road defiling the scorching sun to welcome to the Governorship hopeful.
Speaking at the event, many leaders of the party at the Local Government eulogized the bravery of Ikale born General. They lamented the gruesome murder of Oba Olufon of Ifon due to lack of security for citizens of Ondo State and Nigeria etal. The people threw their weight behind Brigadier General Felix Olamide Ohunyeye (Rtd) based on his security background. They went ahead to endorse him for the plump job because in their wisdom that General Ohunyeye as a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Tax Administrator and Chartered Economist, he will use his wealth of experience to restore sanity back to Ondo State economy.
While thanking the mammoth crowd that came to welcome him, the elated General Ohunyeye promised not to disappoint them.
The General duel much on his campaign promises christened “NEW AGES”.
“If elected, I will ensure that party leaders are carried along in governance”.
The conclusion of the leaders and members of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ose Local Government is to give maximum support to the Governorship aspiration. They vowed to deliver to Ose Local Government to the General.
To underestimate any of the aspirants will be the peril of the frontrunners just as the good people of Ose Local declared massive support for General Ohunyeye.
It will not be a mistake to refer to Brigadier General Felix Olamide Ohunyeye (Rtd) as The Game Changer.
