The Federal Government inaugurated a 37-member tripartite committee on the national minimum wage, tasked with recommending a new minimum wage for Nigeria.
Vice President Kashim Shettima inaugurated the panel, urging members to swiftly arrive at a resolution, as the current N30,000 minimum wage expires at the end of March 2024.
The committee’s membership includes representatives from federal and state governments, the private sector, and organized labor.
The Minimum Wage Act of 2019 empowers the committee to propose an agreed wage, subject to National Assembly ratification.
The move follows concerns from organized labor over the delay in forming the committee promised during negotiations in October.
