Today, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) distributed 24 truckloads of sundry relief materials to flood victims in eight (8) Local Government Areas in Rivers State that were affected by flood last year.
The event, which took place at the Port Harcourt Club, Old GRA, Port Harcourt, and was coordinated by the Rivers State Representative on the NDDC Board, Chief Tony C Okocha KSC JP DSSRS, witnessed the distribution of 3 truckloads of different household and edible items such as mattresses, bags of rice, beans, yams, noodles, beverages, and other sundry items, totaling 47 different household items to flood victims of each of the 8 Local Government Areas in Rivers State, summing up to 24 truckloads.
Speaking during the event, the Rivers NDDC Rep., Chief Tony Okocha, stressed that the NDDC Commission decided to carry out this program to alleviate the suffering of the flood victims in Rivers State. He reassured the people of the state that gone are the days when NDDC was seen as a ‘Cash Cow’. That with the caliber of distinguished and reputable seasoned administrators that constitute this present NDDC Board, beginning with the Board Chairman, Barr. Chiedu Ebie, the performing MD, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, and other members of the Board, the people of Niger Delta can rest assured that the Commission will make a visible difference.
Chief Tony Okocha expressed his gratitude to the NDDC Board, through the Chairman of Governing Board and the Managing Director/CEO, for the donation of palliatives and relief materials to victims of flood and its devastations in Rivers State.
The event was attended by the Local Government Chairmen of the 8 LGAs that were affected by the flood, namely Ahoada East, Ahoada West, Andoni, Abua-Odual, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, Asari Toru, Tai, and Gokana, as well as traditional rulers, CDC, youth bodies, and stakeholders of Rivers State.
The highlight of the event was the unveiling and handing over of the relief materials to the representatives of each of the LGAs, for onward movement to their respective LGAs.
