The Chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter and South-South zone, His Youthfulness, Amb Ihunwo Chijioke has said that the youths of Rivers State asked him to stand with the Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.
The Chairman while speaking on 92.3 Nigeria info program “Hard Fact” said that the youths of Rivers State told him to stand with the Governor of the State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, hence the reason why when he call on them they come out in their numbers.
“Let me tell you that in Rivers State we know ourselves and the roles everyone plays when it comes to politics. I’m not standing one side, Rivers youths told me as their leader, as their servant that this is where we will stand. The former Governor made promise of employment to Rivers youths but failed, and Rivers youths said we are not going to stand with him and told me to stand with Sir Sim hence the reason when I call them they come out, I’m not standing alone.”
When asked about factions in the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter and the National President.
The Chairman responded by saying: “There is no faction in the Rivers State Youth Council. Those you are seeing claiming to be Chairmen are coming because some persons gave them money to incite them against me because am supporting Governor Fubara. You can confirm from the Rivers State Ministry of Youth Development who supervises us and ask them who is the Chairman of youth council”.
“Everybody in this State knows that I’m the Chairman and the leader of South-South zone. Talking about National President of the Youth Council, Rivers State doesn’t align itself anywhere to any national president because no president is existing in the National Youth Council. Those people who are collecting peanut to disrupt what we are doing doesn’t have an office, for we, we are not shifting ground on our resolve to stand with Sir Sim Fubara.”
When asked about the employment of Rivers youths especially the ten thousand civil service job.
The Chairman’s response: “You are aware I led a courtesy call to the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara and I pleaded with him to recall those people that were disengaged at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education.”
“And I also told His Excellency that the employment going on in the State should be stopped because it was given to politicians. I have not gone against any constitutional issue. We have a Governor who is kind hearted and loves young people.”
When asked about his plans for the youths of Rivers State in the year 2024 base on his relationship with the Governor.
The Chairman responded: “This 2024, by the first week of March we will be laying foundation for the Secretariat of the National Youth Council of Nigeria and will be flag-off by His Excellency. If not for the crisis, there are lots of programmes lined up for the youths through the Ministry of Youth Development.
“We have also made a proposal to the Governor to build a youth village in the State where we can hold youth activities and the Governor has given express approval for that. We have also spoken to the Governor to begin to engage the International Oil Companies so that our youths can be employed and other things going on through the Ministry of Youth Development.”
On the argument why NYCN is partisan.
The Chairman responded by saying: “that the Governor of the State is the Grand Patron of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter. Other Chairmen supported other Governors, and the people that are shouting now if you give them the opportunity they will also do the same.
“Ordinarily I should be supporting Nyesom Wike because he is my brother but I said no, I chose to stand with Rivers people and that is to stand with the Governor,” he said.
