Ejigbo Town is the only place in Nigeria That uses French as its official language after the Yoruba Language due to the continuous migration of her people to some neighboring West African countries, notably: Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Liberia, Niger Republic, and Togo and the town doesn’t share borders with any French-speaking country.
Apart from Ejigbo peoples’ mother tongue (Yoruba language) and Nigeria’s official language (English), some of the other foreign languages spoken today in Ejigbo include French (second to Yoruba), Dioula (Mali), Ewe (Togo), and Asante Twi (Ghana). In Ejigbo today, along the street, few people are said to speak English. They speak and transact in French instead, because as itinerant travelers, many natives have developed strong relationships with the Francophone world. The Ejigbo people are found in both West African and European Francophone cities.
The parents of the Togolese international footballer, Adebayor and of the Ivorian No.1 featherweight boxer of 1986/87, Wahabi Spider, Togo Former Chief of Army Staff under late President General Ghansimgbe Eyadema are from Ejigbo
