In the early hours of today Dec 8 2023, Comrade OBAGUNWA OLUWASEGUN aka SUPREME AAUA SUG PRESIDENT 19/20 session, gifts the best graduating student of GPS a sum of #100,000 NAIRA as a reward for his good work.
In his publications earlier he made an announcement that any department or Faculty president who graduated with FIRST CLASS should reach out to him for a gift.
This gift is just to encourage upcoming generations (comrades) to also pursue academic excellence on campus even as they go about with their political ambitions and readiness to serve humanity.
Comr. OBAGUNWA OLUWASEGUN, the former union president of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko express his joy of being able to give back to the institution on the very day of it’s convocation.
In a telephone chat with Owolabi Oluwaseun Olumide, the students who received the sum of #100, 000 gift acknowledged the payment of the money.
My interest in Unionism isn’t something strange and difficult because I have always been the leader of my colleagues right from Primary School, so my involvement in Student Unionism is a natural act from me.
I served as a Public Relations Officer in my Department, I also served as a Senator at the SUG Level while finally serving as the Departmental President.
Olumide disclosed this in an interview when asked how he manage to combine Unionism and education together
While doing all of this, my academics remain the number one priority and as such I was not swayed by the events the Unionism brought my way. It was a great journey but at the end, it was a happy ending.
How do you feel receiving this gift from a former student Union President?
To be candid, I wasn’t expecting this. A fellow comrade told me about it and asked me to follow up. It is a real motivation and I feel so happy. God bless General Supreme as we used to call him during his administration.
What message do you have other conrade out there?
My message to young comrades out there is to strive for be best not only in Unionism but also in their academics.
They are leaders and should in all areas be one. It is painful that some nowadays Comrades aren’t taking their academics serious but will want to contest for a certain post on/outside campus, the truth is that they have misplaced their priority. Tenure of service will pass but it’s what you achieved that will stay with you for the rest of your life.
What is your motive joining student union and what are your experience?
I’m a campaigner of Change and as such, it is one of my priority to ensure things are done the same way and I’m glad I was able to contribute my quota to it.
The experience was nice but challenging due to many calamities that happened on campus most especially the accident that claimed lives 3 years ago. I appreciate God that new time has come and also thank God for making it a reality in the campus and the host community.
