The Government of Nasarawa State has announced plans to include the women reportedly hired by the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to protest half-naked over the outcome of the 2023 gubernatorial election in its new “Engineer A.A Sule Poverty Care Programme”.
The Special Adviser on Political Affairs to the Governor, Dr Kassim Muhammad Kassim made this known in a statement on Friday, stating that the programme domiciled in his office aimed at “assisting the less privileged, widows, and individuals with disabilities in order to prevent them from being disadvantaged due to their circumstances”.
According to Kassim, a former Member of the State Assembly, the decision to include the women in the programme was to alleviate the financial burden on former gubernatorial candidate of the opposition party, David Ombugadu.
He described the decision as a generous offer from Governor Sule and charged the women to seize the opportunity and refrain from further misconduct.
Mr Kassim noted that the Appeal Court in its ruling on Thursday bemoaned the actions of the women as irreligious and violation of Section 23, Subsection 2 of the new Electoral Act.
Meanwhile, the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the judgement of the Appellate Court and vowed to approach the Supreme Court for redress.
