Millions of Liberian heads to the polls on 10th October to elect a candidate who will rule the country for the next six years.
The top two frontrunners among the 20 candidates is the incumbent, President George Weah of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change and Former Vice President Joseph Boakai of the former ruling Unity Party.
This is not the first time the two will be going head-to-head at the polls, incumbent President George Weah beat the eventual runner-up Boakai to emerge as president in 2017. However Weah has on two occasions lost to the then Vice President Joseph Boakai under President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf prior to 2017.
The Coalition for Democratic Change and the Unity Party has been ruling Liberia since 2005.
Other top frontrunners include;
• Alexander Cummings of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP). He secured a 5th place at the last election. He once served as the head of Coca-Cola’s African subsidiary between 2001 and 2008 and as its global chief administrative officer from 2008 until he retired in 2016.
• Dr. Clarence Moniba of the Liberian National Union. He is the youngest son of Liberia’s former Vice President, Dr. Harry F. Moniba, who served in that capacity from 1984 to 1990.
• Cllr. Tiawan Gongloe of the Liberian People’s Party.
