The bill will open up the entertainment sector as a stable and reliable revenue and employment source for Nigeria through the development of entertainment hubs in each state in Nigeria.
Creative economy currently contribute about 2% of Nigeria GDP.
CEC will also be a regulatory body for the entertainment industry like we have NCC in telecommunications industry and NBC in broadcasting industry.
The Commission will also look into disputes within entertainment Industry such as disputes between Artists and Record labels.
Recall that Senator Ishaku Abbo the Chairman Senate Committee on Creative Economy while visiting the Family of MOHBAD promised to sponsor the bill.
The bill has passed first reading in the Senate with second reading coming up in few weeks time in order to get accelerated processes that will lead to public hearing and concurrence with the house of reps. in the spirit of bicameral legislation.
