Gabriela Cavallin has released a statement just hours after Manchester United announced that her ex Antony won’t return to training anytime soon.
The winger, who cost £85 million, is currently under investigation by police in Manchester and Sao Paulo. He was also dropped from the Brazil national team this month for their World Cup qualifying matches.
After Antony announced he wouldn’t be returning to Man Utd training, she made her statement shortly after.
It stated: “Gabriela Cavallin’s defense informs that she trusts in the serious and competent investigation of the Civil Police of Sao Paulo, as well as of the Police of Manchester/UK, and hopes that, once completed, the aggressor will be prosecuted and punished for the crimes he committed. This is in light of the facts and evidence that have become public knowledge as of this date regarding the repeated episodes of aggression suffered by her.
United’s non-international players were scheduled to return to Carrington on Monday, but Antony has been given an indefinite leave of absence.
According to club sources, he has not been suspended and will continue to receive his full salary while away from Old Trafford.
They think the action shows how seriously the club is taking the accusations, and they will keep an eye on the situation.
In an exclusive interview with The Sun on Sunday today, Cavallin spearheaded calls for the £85 million player to be cut from the team.
After the Mason Greenwood controversy, the club had been under increasing pressure to take action against Antony.
