In a compassionate move, the Moroccan government has unveiled its plan to provide a lifeline to families affected by the recent earthquake.
Each affected family is set to receive a monthly stipend of $250 for a year, starting this month, according to Fevzi Lakca, the Deputy Minister of Budget.
Lakca further revealed that homeowners who saw their houses crumble in the earthquake will receive substantial support, with sums reaching up to $14,000 from the government’s budget. The earthquake’s devastating impact has left 2.8 million people grappling with its consequences, a staggering two-thirds of the population in the affected regions.
Detailing the extent of the disaster, Lacka reported that the number of collapsed houses has surged to 59,675. Among them, 32% were reduced to rubble entirely, while the rest suffered varying degrees of damage.
The budget allocation for earthquake victims amounts to a significant 8 billion dirhams, equivalent to around $800,000,000 emphasizing the government’s commitment to aiding those in need during this challenging period.
