The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, have pledged to deepen collaboration in a bid to free Nigeria of corruption and reduce carnage on the nationβs highways.
This was the high point of discussion when the Commander, Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC, Michael Nzekwe played host to the Sector Commander, FRSC, RS8.1 Kwara Command, Fredrick Ade Ogidan, on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at the Commissionβs Office, GRA, Ilorin.
Speaking on the essence of the visit, C C Ogidan said that βit is important for agencies of government to work together to make Nigeria a better place for allβ. Specifically, he said that βcollaboration between EFCC and FRSC is necessary as the task of restoring integrity to Nigeria through anti-graft war and bringing sanity to the nationβs roads rested on the two agenciesβ.
He noted that βone of the major problems facing the country is corruptionβ noting that βwhoever is not supporting the efforts being championed by the EFCC in ridding the country of corruption is unpatriotic.β
The Sector Commander praised the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Commission for complying with safety rules and regulations. “I like to commend you on the invitation extended to us some weeks back to train your officers on basic safety rules and regulations on the highways. It is quite commendable! If there is any other area you need our support, our doors are always open for youβ, he assured.
In his remark, Nzekwe commended the FRSC for being supportive of the Commission.
βWe know the importance of the Federal Road Safety Corps in fighting corruption. It is an agency that we really need to partner with, to enable us to succeed. There are instances when we have had to fall back on Road Safety because they keep records of Nigerians, especially vehicle registration and issuance of drivers license and these are information that often comes handy during investigations”, he said.
Nzekwe enjoined the FRSC to continue to support the EFCC, especially in the area of intelligence sharing.
