Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called for participation of more Christians in politics to make it clean instead of dirty.
He said ordinarily, politics should not be a dirty game but those who participate in it makes it dirty.
Speaking at the 57th annual convention and 67th anniversary of The Gospel Faith Mission International (GOFAMINT) at Gospel City, Ogunmakin, Ogun State, Obasanjo said Christian must stand out among corrupt people and bad influencers of the world while participating in politics.
The former President while speaking on the theme: ‘The roles of the Church in nation building at a time like this,” said believers
must stick to the values of Christ and ask themselves all the time, ‘What will Christ do if He finds himself in the circumstances that I find myself?
He said at a time the country is facing various challenges, church must rise up to the occasion as the salt of the world.
According to him: “We are in the world, yet we are not of the world. The influence of corrupting corruption is enormous. We are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. We are to be like Jesus who, when He was in the world, did not belong to the world.”
He urged churches to demand for justice, fairness and equity in the social, political and economic life of the nation.
“Food without salt is stale. The church is meant to flavour it’s environment. A church that cannot play its role has lost its saltiness. Christ has chosen us to bring forth fruits and that our fruits should abide,” he said.
General-Overseer of GOFAMINT, Pastor (Dr) Elijav O. Abina recalled his visit to Aso Rock Chapel when Obasanjo he was President.
He said he met Obasanjo teaching Sunday School, saying when they spoke on his arrival at the convention ground, the former President told him to his astonishment that he is still teaching Sunday School classes.
