The Benue State Police Command said it has arrested a gang of vicious armed robbers and recovered catchment of firearms.
Parading the suspects yesterday at the command headquarters in Makurdi, the Commissioner of Police, Bartholomew Oyeka, identified one of the suspects as Kumaor Daniel, the alleged deputy to slain armed robbery kingpin, Gana, who was killed in a military operation.
CP Oyeaka said the suspects Daniel was trailed and arrested on August 14, at about 03:40am, along Adikpo-Ugbema Road in Benue State.
He said further investigation led to the arrest of four other suspected members of the gang- Torwuese Ashiekaa, Aondongu Aligbe, Terkula Wuhe alias Oryughurt and one Terhemba Sevav, 47.
He said Sevav was a specialist in repairing and manufacturing rifles for the gang.
The police boss said items recovered from the suspects included two AK-47 rifles, two fabricated AK-47 rifles, two Berretta pistols still undergoing fabrication, a double barrel gun loaded with 35 live cartridges and 130 rounds of 7.62X 39mm live ammunition.
The CP said other suspects fled the scene, urging Benue people to volunteer useful and timely information that would assist the command in tackling crime.
