Practising lawyers slide into depression daily and become drunks and smokers and displays reckless lives openly in the public.
This is the reality. Will excommunication too be recommended, in place of rehabilitation, for those?
If a lawyer runs mad and walks nakedly in the street or drinks around the beer joints or smokes openly in the motor parks, we will agree it does not dignify the NBA and even the parents, relatives, friends and associates. But we will also agree excommunicating such individual under the pretext of “he is disgracing us”, like we all are saints, will simply be a show of hypocritical judgementality.
What would have added pride and value to NBA and made us all proud of our association is the courage to drag a sitting Attorney-General, a member of the association, to LPDC for being a chief law officer of a government that disobeys several court orders and misrepresents our courts as barking dogs that cannot bite. Looking away from infractions of such magnitude and gravity under each successive governments, while taking up on “ill-social” social media show of unacceptable imagery and “immoral” displays of one individual is adissipation of high energy on low matters.
It is high time NBA included committee on reformation and rehabilitation in the list of committees of the association in it’s constitution, in the face of pressure in the country, to spend more of its positive energy on reformation. We may all pretend about it, but in this country, “nothing normal”.
