Appreciates TotalEnergies & NNPC for The Facility, Saying, it Will Reduce Unemployment And Lack of Skills.
Another relief came the way of Ondo State women, all thanks to the commissioning of Women Development and Skills Acquisition Center, Akure by the State Acting Governor, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Thursday.
Aiyedatiwa commissioned the newly-built multi-million Naira facility built by TotalEnergies and Nigeria National Petroleum Company ( NNPC ) and some partners, as part of the firms Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), donated to Ondo State Government, saying that, an increased commitment Corporate Social Responsibility ( CSR ) is not a symptom of the failures of government but a moral obligation to complement government efforts in solving a specific problem.
The massive facility situated inside Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development complex, at Alagbaka Akure, boast of constant and interrupted power supply with facilities including;
* Main Auditorium
* Sick Bay
* ICT Training Room
* Mixed Training Room
* Catering Training Room.
The Acting Governor led members of the State cabinet at the inuaguration of the facility with excitement on the people that witnessed the event, bringing message of appreciation on the development .
He said the project was a testimony of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s relationship with development partners.
Aiyedatiwa added that, the situation of unemployment, jobs and improved economic situation lies in empowering the informal sector.
“You will agree with me that no society can thrive without the informal sector” .
“The donation of the Center will therefore, provide the appropriate platform to enrich the sector to create the relevant employment required to absorb a very large number of jobless, able bodied men and women roaming the streets without gainful employment” , he said.
Continued, Aiyedatiwa said, “TotalEnergies and NNPC have therefore blaze the trail amongst the corporate organizations in the State by providing enabling environment for our women in the State to launch themselves into the league of job providers by acquiring relevant skills to be provided in this center which will not only make them to be gainfully employed but also galvanizing them into employers of labour” .
The Acting Governor discribed CSR as a company’s overarching approach for improving the social, economic and environmental well-being of the society and a strategic way of achieving national development.
He therefore charged organizations across the state to develop robust Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives in order to meet the socio-economic needs of the people.
The Acting Governor said, Akeredolu’s administration will continue to appreciate the support of organizations that are committed to the CSR obligation as it will go a long way in complementing government’s efforts by extending the reach of social intervention to communities.
In her remarks, Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Mrs Juliana Osadahun while thanking the donors ( TotalEnergies and NNPC and it’s partners ), said forging a harmonious relationship with the people and creating an image that is not only focused on profit-taking, but also that cares for the growth and development of the people and the society, should be a business principle for all corporate institutions.
Speaking earlier online at the event, both the management of TotalEnergies and NNPC stated that, developing a CSR policy that will respond to the expectation of government and people through corporate institutions is exigent to social development.
They said, the building of the Skill Center was motivated by their firms’ passion to improve the welfare of the ordinary people in the State as they urged for proper maintenance and protection of the facilities.
Accompanied the Acting Governor to the event are, representative of Wife of the State Governor and SSA to Governor on Gender, Mrs Temitope Daniyan, Secretary to the State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu, Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Mrs Juliana Osadahun, Commissioner for Energy, Mines and Mineral Resources, Engr Rasaq Obe, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Yeye-Oba Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, Commissioner for Health, Dr Banji Ajaka, Special Adviser to Governor on Gender, Mrs Olamide Falana and other top Government officials.
Others are Civil Defence Officers Wives Association led by wife of the State Commandant, Mrs Oluremi Olatundu, Members of National Council of Women Societies led by their Chairperson, Mrs Odusola, Members of FOWOSO, women leaders and others.
