The labour unions of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa in Ondo State has suspended it’s indefinite protest over the disegament of some staff by the Governing Council.
This is contained in a communique issued by Mr Temidayo Temola, Chairman, Joint Action Congress (JAC) and made available to newsmen after the resolution passed at it’s congress on Monday in Okitipupa.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the unions had began a protest on Thursday following the decision by Prof. Akinbo Adesomoju led Governing Council to disengage no fewer than 35 staff of that institution.
The unions: Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), National Association of Academic Technologist (NAAT), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) had paralised academic and commercial activities in the institution since last week vowing to continue until the disengement was reversed.
According to the communique, the congress met and appraise the ongoing agitations and demands with respect to disengaged staff and resolved as follows:
“That the leaders of the unions upon presentation of involvement and appeal of relevant stakeholders decided to allow room for dialogue.
“That the unions in JAC are not belligerent but rather to a commitment of peace and progress of the University
“That the Congress, therefore suspend futher action on the matter for a seven working days upon which to recovene to take final resolution,” the communique read.
