The governor of Ondo state, Arakunrin Akeredolu Oluwarotimi SAN, recently scored an own-goal politically.
I personally warned Aketi’s former appointee on a renowned platform in Ondo state, Costal Renaissance Whatsapp platform , anchored by a popular journalist, Mr. Taiwo Gbamila, when I noticed overzealous attitude of one of the house of representatives member elects who are loyal to Aketi’s camp.
Suspecting a political crash landing in the manner he was going about the Rt hon. Ahmed Idris Wase’s ambition of leading the next green chamber of the nation, a subtle piece of advice was given to the former commissioner for information, Hon. Donald Ojogo, a rep member elect for Ilaje-Eseodo federal constituency, a political boy of Aketi. He was virtually all out for the Hon. Wase until the recent political mishap .
This current deputy speaker started lobbying for the speakership of 10th national assembly, he came to Ondo state after February 25th presidential election which Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu won, began southwest’s tours, visited Aketi in his Alagbaka’s pigeon hole. Arakunrin of Ondo state declared his support for him, having gotten Aketi’s nod for speakership, he(Hon. Wase) became the beautiful bride of this former information officer of Aketi turned elected federal parliamentarian, he appointed himself the media aide to Hon. Wase, booking engagements with popular television political programs to defend his newly found leader. As usual, I told him the need for them, I mean the newly elected parliamentarians from sunshine state to consult the president elect, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, to know his preferred aspirant before they play the fool’s game but they never listened .
Ordinarily, the elections of principal officers in the national assembly should be devoid of the presidential influence which is another arm of government, however, our nature as Africans doesn’t give room for that. When president Muhamadu Buhari was sworn in, i.e 2015, then, APC national leader, Sen. Ahmed Tinubu tried to call the attention of Daura’s golden son to the reality on ground but the former General turned politician replied our Jagaban of Borgu with his viral statement ‘ I belong to nobody, I belong to everybody’. This his stand encouraged the Saraki-Dogara’s coup to be successful and his government paid dearly for it, all efforts to promote good governance were frustrated by these aggrieved legislators . In 2019, President Muhamadu Buhari couldn’t repeat the same mistake, he obviously endorsed Lawan – Gbajabiamila tickets as the senate president and the speaker of house of representatives respectively.
After returning from foreign trip, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu had been holding meetings with stakeholders, showed preference for Akpabio – Abass tickets in the helms of affairs of 10th national assembly. This Tinubu’s view doesn’t go well with Aketi who had earlier pitched his tent with a wrong choice but not bold enough to attack the president elect, transferred his aggression to the national working committee members who are only working based on the body language of the next commander in chief of Nigerian armed forces . As usual, Aketi wrote his lengthy but worthless article to criticise the leadership of his party which has generated a lot of tongue-lashes from the reasonable Ondo state indigenes .
I’m not surprised with present scenario because of Aketi’s antecedents of insincerity, being a self – acclaimed human rights activist, when the real activists like Femi Falana, Gani Fawehinmi, Alfred Rewane, Sam Kokori and co., were fighting military dictatorship during the dark period of Gen. Abacha led Junta, Arakunrin was busy enjoying himself with the oppressors of the people , served as the attorney general to late Navy Capt Ibe Onyearugbulem led military government that was renowned for the arrest of late Pa. Adekunle Ajasin, former governor of Ondo state and the leader of NADECO that fought for the democracy which Aketi and his family members are enjoying today in Ondo state. Many people said Aketi is behaving like this because he hates injustice, those propagating this falsehood don’t know him in person and his attitude in governance so far.
If anyone is doubting my stand about Arakunrin, he or she should make independent findings about the last APC primaries elections conducted under Arakunrin’s watch in Ondo state, particularly of Akoko Southwest and Southeast federal constituency which produced Chief Gboyega Adefarati as the ruling party’s candidate (he is a son of the former Ondo state governor, late Chief Adebayo Adefarati). This election was conducted twice and nullified twice by different federal high courts for irregularities, the worst ever in history of Ondo state .
Following the recent outburst against the national leadership of APC visa-vis president elect , many individuals, mostly the APC stakeholders in Ondo state have been coming out to criticise this habitual attitude of Aketi and dissociated themselves with his current unpopular adventure. The former state chairman of AD/ACN, who worked assiduously for the growth of the party when opportunist politicians like Aketi were no where to be found, Amb. Bar. Sola Iji, who took up the responsibilityof resurrecting the comatose progressives in sunshine state , following the deadly blows from Chief Olusegun Obasanjo led federal government that usurped the political landscape in the southwest region from AD with PDP in 2003. This nobble man had come out to condemn the Ondo state governor with all assertions over Aketi’s rude stand.
In the same vein, another viable group that worked for Tinubu’s presidency of 2023, termed Tinubu Independent Action Movement, TIAM, through its two principal officers, Senator Tayo Alasoadura (a former federal board chairman, commissioner for finance, Senator and minister of the federation) and Profesor Ajayi Boroffice (one of the two longest serving senators in history of Ondo state ), have described Gov. Akeredolu of Ondo state as a lone ranger political warlord who is already heading for a fatal political accident . Honestly, Aketi has bitten more than he can chew on his recent action of the perceived attack against Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu and started his journey to political oblivion which he may not recover.
