Suspected political thugs on Saturday invaded a polling unit in Alasawa Kwaciri ward 030, Kurna Gabas of Fagge local government area of Kano State North West Nigeria and chased out voters who turned to exercise their franchise at ongoing supplementary elections.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is conducting supplementary elections in 2,660 polling units in 185 Local Government Areas across 24 those states of the Nigerian Federation.
The voting had commenced in Alasawa Kwaciri ward polling unit when the hoodlums wielding dangerous weapons stormed the centre and chased away the prospective voters.
Men and women were seen running for their lives to escape danger as thugs threw stones at them.
According to reports, timely intervention of armed policemen saved the day and they stopped the violence and drove the thugs away.
Although no injury has been reported so far, the report indicated that normalcy has since returned as election activities have resumed.
The police present protected the polling materials and INEC workers and called back the people to continue casting their votes.
