An Ikeja Chief Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, on Tuesday, remanded a 27-year-old street urchin, Adebayo Agboola, in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling a nine-month-old neighbour’s baby.
Agboola, who resides in the Ijora-Bada (shanti) area of Lagos, was charged with defilement, an offence which contravened the provisions of Sections 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
During court proceedings, the prosecution counsel, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that the offence was committed on March 23 in White Sand area, Ijora – Bada , Lagos.
He said, “The baby’s mother, 16, kept her child in the care of Agboola to buy noodles not too far from her home.”
However, Chief Magistrate Kubeinje directed the prosecutor to send the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
She further adjourned the case until May 5, 2023.
