Ahead of the September Campaign season, Presidential candidates; Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu , Omoyele Sowore and others will have to cough out N10m for billboards in Kogi State. This was coming after the State House of Assembly has passed the Signage Agency Establishment Law which requires presidential candidates to pay N10 million to erect billboards and posters.
The house passed the bill yesterday in Lokoja, Kogi State capital.
The legislators, who considered the bill clause by clause at plenary, said the law would regulate outdoor display of signage and advertisement in the state.
The law also aims at curbing the indiscriminate pasting of posters on side walks, walls, bridges and public buildings in the state.
The law also requires all governorship candidates to pay N5 million, senatorial candidates to pay N2 million and House of Representatives’ candidates to pay N1 million.
The law also stipulates that House of Assembly and council chairmanship candidates are to pay N500, 000 each.
Consequently, the law provides for the establishment of a signage agency saddled with regulatory functions.
