Residents of Kam Kire and nearby communities in the Farin Ruwa Development Area of Nasarawa State are urgently appealing to the state government for the construction of a proper bridge over the river that separates their community. The current makeshift rope bridge, built through community efforts, poses a serious safety risk, particularly during the rainy season.
The residents, primarily small-scale farmers, are deeply concerned about their safety and that of their families. The unstable rope bridge has led to several close calls, especially for women and children, who are most vulnerable when crossing the river. During heavy rains, the river swells, often rendering the rope bridge unusable and cutting off access to essential services such as markets, schools, and healthcare facilities.
This lack of a reliable crossing has also negatively impacted the economic activities of the community, which relies heavily on agriculture. The residents are urging the Nasarawa State Government to take immediate action to construct a stable bridge, warning that without intervention, a tragic incident could occur.
