Former President Donald Trump confused former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown with former California Governor Jerry Brown during a recent news conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate. Trump recounted a supposed near-death experience involving a helicopter ride with Willie Brown, describing an emergency landing and suggesting it was a dramatic and distressing event.
When asked about Vice President Kamala Harris’ past relationship with Willie Brown and its potential impact on her career, Trump claimed that Brown had been somewhat anxious during the incident.
However, Willie Brown has denied Trump’s account, stating he never flew in a helicopter with Trump. The incident Trump described seems to have involved Jerry Brown, as, in 2018, Trump was indeed on a helicopter with Jerry Brown and then-Gov.-elect Gavin Newsom during a tour of wildfire-ravaged Paradise, California.
Newsom confirmed the flight, but there was no emergency landing. Trump’s claim that Willie Brown spoke negatively about Harris was also disputed, with Brown denying making such statements.
A Trump campaign spokesperson did not clarify the mix-up but commented vaguely on Brown’s past comments about Harris.
