The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has joined forces with Union Bank of Nigeria plc to support the empowerment of women and youth in the Niger Delta Region. A delegation from the bank recently visited the NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt to discuss their collaboration.
During the meeting, the leader of the delegation, Mr. Chidi Ileka, emphasized that the bank saw an opportunity to focus on women and youth empowerment in the region. Chioma Nwokike, Head of Alpher Business at Union Bank, presented their plans, which include providing easy access to funds, teaching women how to promote themselves, offering financial literacy and mentoring programs, and facilitating skills acquisition.
The MD/CEO also noted that the NDDC is interested in embarking in projects that will be sustainable and not just politically motivated. According to the Chief Executive Officer, the Niger Delta Chamber of Commerce will build structures that will streamline the activities of beneficiaries.” We are going to be supporting the decisions of the Chamber of Commerce which will help in promoting commerce and identifying entrepreneurs”.
