Leaders have devoted themselves to politics, little knowing, it seems that political independence disappears without economic independence, that economic independence is the foundation of political independence – Booker T. Washington.Annually comes the celebration of political independence and today is not an exception. I join many well meaning Nigerians and the world population in celebrating this laudable feat.
Nigeria being the most populous black nation has not really tapped into her potentials and numerous God-gifted resources which should have turned us to Eldorado among committee of nations.
Truly, political liberation is being celebrated but what has it translated to in the lives of the citizens? what is our grade on economic liberation? So many questions to be asked and many untold stories to be unraveled, stories of hardship, penury, insecurity and other societal menace which has enveloped our national space.
In all of these, we must not give up but stay focus and derive strength in our weaknesses because the reality of true change only come to those that take actions when others shy away.
This year celebration comes with a new season of political activities and the first step to get the right peg into the appropriate hole is by electing responsible and quality leaders to shape positive policies that will affect our lives for “the people rejoice when the righteous are in power”.
Our lives should be geared towards total liberation of the economy and that will bring posterity and smile on the face of our teeming population and effect policies that will secure a better space for the generation yet unborn.
Happy 62nd birthday celebration, may this season usher in good tidings.
