In a harrowing incident that has left Niger State in shock, 18-year-old car painter Fatiyah Abdulhakeem has been arrested for the brutal murder of retired Permanent Secretary Adamu Jagaba. The tragic event unfolded on December 7, 2024, at Jagaba’s block moulding industry along the Eastern Bye-Pass in Minna.
According to police reports, Abdulhakeem, who had previously worked as Jagaba’s car painter, visited the block industry under the pretense of discussing vehicle repairs. During their interaction, Abdulhakeem attacked Jagaba, stabbing him multiple times in the head and neck. Despite Jagaba’s desperate pleas for mercy, offering money in exchange for his life, the assailant continued the assault, ultimately delivering a fatal blow with a stapling machine .
After the attack, Abdulhakeem stole Jagaba’s Toyota Camry and fled the scene. He first drove to his grandmother’s residence along Bosso Road, claiming the car belonged to a customer who had paid him to wash it. Subsequently, he sold the vehicle for N2 million .
The Niger State Police Command swiftly responded to the incident. By 7 p.m. on the same day, officers intercepted the stolen vehicle along Bosso Estate Road in Minna, apprehending Abdulhakeem in the process. During interrogation, he confessed to the murder and revealed that he had conspired with some of Jagaba’s workers, who provided information facilitating the crime .
The late Adamu Jagaba, who had retired from the State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, was a respected member of his community and the Saint Michael Catholic Church, where he was a Knight of St. Mulumba. His untimely death has elicited widespread grief, with many describing him as a generous and committed individual .
The police have intensified efforts to apprehend other accomplices involved in the crime, as the investigation continues.
