-Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa explained that his refusal to present his Certificate of Return to APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje was not meant as a sign of disrespect.
-Aiyedatiwa had won his reelection last Saturday, and he was presented with his Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja on Wednesday.
-After receiving his certificate, Aiyedatiwa led Ondo State’s APC party leadership to meet the National Working Committee of the APC at the party’s headquarters, where they were warmly received. Both Aiyedatiwa and his deputy, Adelami Olaide, declined to present their certificates to Ganduje, in a departure from the usual protocol.
-Aiyedatiwa emphasized that the refusal to present their certificates to Ganduje was not intended to show disrespect or undermine his position.
-Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa clarified that his refusal to present his Certificate of Return to APC Chairman Ganduje was because he believed the first presentation should be made to President Bola Tinubu.
-Aiyedatiwa explained that he intended to present the certificate to President Tinubu first, as the leader of the party, but since Tinubu was not in town, he proceeded to meet with the APC National Working Committee (NWC). He emphasized that the decision was not a sign of disrespect to Ganduje, but rather a matter of protocol and respect for the party’s leadership structure.
-Aiyedatiwa acknowledged Ganduje’s leadership, noting that since he became APC chairman, the party has not lost any election at the national or state level.
-Aiyedatiwa affirmed his recognition of Ganduje’s role in strengthening the party and reaffirmed his commitment to the APC’s leadership.
