The United States is reportedly working behind the scenes on a new initiative aimed at establishing a temporary ceasefire in Lebanon and reviving negotiations for a hostage deal, according to Walla Mail, which cited officials from both Israel and the U.S.
The discussions reportedly began a few days ago after a conversation between the White House national security adviser and Israeli Secretary Ron Dermer, with an announcement potentially forthcoming as soon as today.
The proposed ceasefire, which could extend for up to four weeks, is designed to curb escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. A U.S. official has noted that diplomatic talks are ongoing with France, Lebanon, and various Arab nations.
Reports suggest that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has given his approval to pursue this initiative.
