The Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council (JCC) Ondo State Axis, Comrade Oluwarotimi Tobiloba Joshua (JOSH), has lauded the successful conduct of the Students Union Government (SUG) elections at Ondo State College of Health Technology, Akure. The Chairman, accompanied by the leadership team of NANS JCC Ondo, visited the College to observe the electoral process and ensure a free, fair, and transparent exercise.
The election, which had been postponed twice, finally took place and saw students turn out in large numbers to exercise their franchise. Speaking after the event, the Chairman expressed satisfaction with the peaceful and credible conduct of the polls, describing it as “impressive, satisfactory, and commendable.”
During his visit, Comrade Oluwarotimi held a meeting with the Provost of the College, Dr. Oluwole Emoruwa, to appreciate his unwavering efforts in ensuring that the election was conducted as promised. He commended the Provost’s transparency and his dedication to giving Nigerian students the platform to freely choose their leaders. Dr. Emoruwa, in response, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to upholding democratic values while prioritizing the rights and welfare of the students.
The Chairman also praised the leadership of the Dean of Students Affairs and his Deputy, as well as the Independent Students Electoral Committee (ISEC), for their exemplary organization of the election. He acknowledged their professionalism and efforts to prioritize the safety and welfare of students while ensuring that the process adhered strictly to the College’s constitution.
While addressing the newly elected leadership of the Students Union, the Chairman extended his heartfelt congratulations to Comrade Jeje Thankgod Oluwanishola (popularly known as VOCAL) on his emergence as the Students Union President. He also commended other elected comrades and charged them to lead with integrity, transparency, and a genuine commitment to serving the student body.
Comrade Oluwarotimi emphasized the need for the new administration to deliver on their mandates and build a legacy of impactful leadership that would inspire future leaders. He reminded them that their fellow students had entrusted them with their votes and, therefore, urged them to remain accountable and work tirelessly to amplify the voices of the student populace.
In a special message to the candidates who participated but did not emerge victorious, the Chairman praised their courage and statesmanship, noting that their willingness to contest was a testament to their passion for service and leadership. He encouraged them to remain actively involved in supporting the new administration and contributing to the development of the College.
Furthermore, the Chairman expressed deep admiration for the enthusiasm displayed by the student electorate, noting that their active participation was a reflection of their commitment to democracy and governance. He urged them to continue upholding the values of unity and collective responsibility as they support the new leadership.
The Chairman concluded by reaffirming the commitment of NANS JCC Ondo State to safeguarding the rights and welfare of Nigerian students across all institutions in the state. He assured the students of the College that NANS JCC Ondo would continue to collaborate with the administration and student leadership to foster an environment conducive to learning, development, and peaceful coexistence.
This election, he noted, was a significant milestone in the history of the institution, and the peaceful conduct was a reflection of the collective efforts of the College administration, the electoral committee, and the students themselves. The Chairman expressed optimism that the newly elected administration, led by Comrade Oluwanishola Jeje Thankgod, would exemplify the values of service, accountability, and good governance.
