Kachalla Tukur Sharme, one of Kaduna’s most feared and notorious bandit leaders, has been killed in a violent gun battle with a rival gang in the forest, according to a statement by the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan. The deadly clash took place over the weekend in the Rijana and Kaso forests, spanning Kachia, Chikun, and Kajuru local government areas.
Sharme, who was responsible for numerous brutal attacks, including kidnappings and killings in areas like Millennium City, Maraban Rido, and Kujama, met his end alongside other criminals during the fratricidal clash. Notably, the gunfight also provided an opportunity for some abducted victims to escape captivity.
Sharme was infamous for his criminal activities that extended to neighboring communities in Katsina and Niger states. He was also behind the high-profile abduction of 121 students from Bethel Baptist High School in Kujama, Kaduna State, on July 5, 2021.
Some of the injured bandits are reportedly seeking medical assistance, as per intelligence sources within the forest. This violent end to Sharme’s reign of terror marks a significant moment in the ongoing efforts to combat banditry in northern Nigeria.
