Hip-hop artist Fatman Scoop, who collapsed onstage during a performance in Connecticut last month, has been confirmed to have died from heart disease, according to the state medical examiner’s office.
The official cause of death was identified as hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, as reported by a spokesperson on Wednesday. The 53-year-old rapper fell ill while performing in Hamden on August 30 and was subsequently transported to a hospital.
In a heartfelt statement on Instagram, his family expressed their grief, stating that “the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon on stage and in life.” Born Isaac Freeman III, Fatman Scoop gained fame for his chart-topping single “Be Faithful” in the early 2000s and made significant contributions to hits by artists like Missy Elliott and Mariah Carey.
His family fondly remembered him as “the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength and courage.” They added that “his music made us dance and embrace life with positivity,” noting that his joyful spirit and generosity would be deeply missed but never forgotten.
