A fire broke out early Friday morning in a seven-storey building on Sanni Adewale Street in Lagos Island Local Government Area, Lagos State. The blaze, which impacted numerous offices and shops within the building, prompted a rapid response from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Service, confirmed the incident on X, stating that the situation is under control and no casualties have been reported. According to her statement, “On August 16, 2024, at 05:17 hours, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service received an emergency call about a fire at Sanni Adewale Street. The fire affected several shops in the building.”
Firefighters from Ebute Elefun, Sari, and Lekki 1 stations arrived at the scene by 05:33 hours. Thanks to their prompt response, the fire is now under control, with ongoing ventilation efforts to ensure safety in the area.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was caused by an electrical surge. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service continues to monitor the situation to prevent any rekindling, and further investigations will be conducted to assess the full extent of the damage and determine the exact cause of the fire.
