The Minna-Suleja road was initially awarded by the federal government in 2011 under President Goodluck Jonathan, but construction work covered no more than 10 kilometers before it was abandoned.
The immediate past state governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, also constructed and maintained part of the single existing lane.
Governor Umaru Bago upon assuming office took over the project from the federal government and awarded the contract for the dualization of the road, which covers approximately 32 kilometers (16 kilometers each way).
It should be recalled that Governor Bago also took over the 11km (5km each lane) City Gate to Chanchaga road project from the federal government and completed its dualization within one year of his administration.
Furthermore, after taking over the project, Governor Bago relocated the city gate to Jazu Village, 16 kilometers away from its first position. This relocation will allow for city expansion and create more investment and business opportunities.
Bago is indeed building a new Niger.
