……presents demands To Improve students’ welfare
The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Council (NANS JCC) Ondo State Axis, led by Chairman Comrade Oluwarotimi Joshua Oluwatobiloba, met with H.E. Governor Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa yesterday, presenting a range of demands to enhance student welfare and educational opportunities in the state.
The demands put forward by NANS JCC Ondo Axis include:
Provision of buses for all institutions in the state, including NANS and other student representative bodies, to improve transportation for students and facilitate their academic and extracurricular activities.
Bursary payments and other forms of financial assistance to support students’ educational pursuits and alleviate some of the financial burdens they may face.
Employment opportunities for graduates who have held leadership positions within NANS, recognizing their commitment to student welfare and providing them with the opportunity to apply their skills and experience in the workforce.
Ensuring adequate security on and off institution campuses in Ondo State.
Addressing accreditation issues of some state-owned institutions.
While responding to some of the requests of the student leaders, Governor Aiyedatiwa said the process for the payment of bursaries and scholarships had begun and would be completed in a few weeks to begin disbursement.
The Governor assured that his administration will continue to prioritize the education sector and issues concerning the welfare of students and youths. Thanking the students of the state for peacefully conducting themselves, Governor Aiyedatiwa promised to look into all other requests of the student leaders and address them in the shortest period.
This meeting was an important step in our ongoing dialogue with the government. We will continue to advocate for the needs of students and push for policies that enhance our educational and life prospects in Ondo State.
The NANS JCC Ondo Axis leadership is optimistic that the meeting with Governor Aiyedatiwa will lead to tangible improvements in the lives of students in Ondo State. The demands presented at the meeting are the result of extensive consultations with students and student leaders, reflecting a broad consensus within the student community about what is needed to promote educational excellence and opportunity in the state.
In the same vein, we are using this medium to reach out to all Nigerian students regarding the lingering protests. In recent days, there have been calls for protests in Nigeria to address a range of issues facing students, youth, and all citizens of this nation. However, we must remember that violent protests can cause significant harm to our communities, disrupt essential services, and undermine our efforts to advocate for positive change.
Instead of resorting to violence, let us choose the path of peace. As students and citizens of Nigeria, we have a powerful voice that can be used to advocate for our needs and interests. We can use this voice to call for change through peaceful means, such as organizing meetings with government officials, participating in public debates and discussions, and engaging in constructive dialogue with our communities.
It is important to remember that the best way to bring about change is to work together, listen to each other’s perspectives, and find common ground. Violence and destruction will only divide us and make it more difficult for us to achieve our goals.
The leadership of NANS JCC Ondo Axis is committed to working closely with government officials, student groups, and other stakeholders to achieve these goals that will benefit the masses and ensure that the voices of students are heard and respected in the policymaking process.
The meeting concluded with a positive exchange between the governor and the NANS JCC Ondo Axis delegation, with the governor praising the students’ commitment to positive change and the students expressing their gratitude for the governor’s willingness to engage with them and take their concerns seriously.
