Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi has confirmed that Rwanda is reinforcing its current contingent of 2,500 soldiers in the fight against Islamist terrorists in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, according to AIM.
According to the President, the arrival of more troops is a result of the departure of the Southern African Development Community Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM).
āWhen SAMIM definitively leaves the Macomia area, weāll occupy itā, said Nyusi.
The Rwandan involvement, he added, cited by the German agency DW Africa, was ānot because Mozambique canāt provide defense, but you canāt fight terrorism alone. But the greater responsibility lies with the Mozambicansā.
According to Nyusi, it is completely clear that Rwanda co-operates with the country, āit doesnāt co-operate with individuals. And the greatest pride we would have is to leave things well done so that they can continueā.
