…30% mobilisation for contractor to commence work

Rivers State Executive Council presided over by the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has approved the award of the Trans Kalabari road project valued at N225,114,563,830.02 to Lubrik Construction Company Limited.
Briefing Government House Correspondents after the 5th meeting of the Council on Wednesday, Commissioner for Information and Communications, Senibo Joe Johnson said the cost of the project is informed by the critical and strategic nature of the project to the development of the state coupled with its terrain, which takes off from the Port Harcourt ring road near NNS Pathfinder at Mgbuodoha, stretching about 2.0kilometers to Aker road and traverses the back of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education moving southwards to the first bridge crossing to Oguruama to terminate at Bakana and Tombia end.
He noted that the road captured in the 2024 budget is expected to be completed in 32 months as the Council also approved 30% mobilisation for the project with the rest expected to be paid on milestone and to be funded from the State’s Internally generated revenue without borrowing.
The Commissioner further said Council was briefed on various sporting exploits by the State’s teams, stressing that Rivers State Under 17 football team won the maiden edition of the Nigerian Professional Football League Under 17 Youth Premier League. Others include Rivers male and female Hockey teams emerging first and second respectively, as well as Rivers male and female Volleyball team emerging first at the National Beach Volleyball competition.
Senibo Johnson also stated that Queen Dan-Jumbo came first in the Open Chess Competition and emerged the best female player while team Rivers won three gold medals at the National Open Table Tennis Championship and also emerged the best overall team. Significantly, the Commissioner pointed out that Rivers Hoopers Basketball Club qualified for the finals of NBA BAL competition holding in Kigali, Rawanda.
Also at the briefing, the Acting Director of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Engr. Tamunoprinye Briggs speaking on the Trans Kalabari road noted that after evaluation of the project documents, the bureau found all the procedures to have followed due process and issued certificate of no objections for the project to be awarded to the preferred bidder and commencement of work on the project.
