A former Commissioner for Transport in Abia State, Mrs Nnenna Obewu Onwuka has advised women in the country to always assist their husbands in the payment of their childrenβs school fees.
This, she said, would reduce the burden placed on the shoulders of their husbands in running the family.
Mrs Onwuka who was the Chairperson of the International Womenβs Day celebration, organized by the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike Women Association, MOUAUWA, on Thursday at Umudike, advised women against hoarding their money when it comes to school fees payments but to assist their husbands.
Obewu Onwuka who applauded the contributions of women in the development of families and the nation at large regretted that some wives hoard their money instead of helping with school fees payment.
According to her, kids are sometimes driven out of classes for not paying fees because some of the mothers were waiting for their husbands to provide school fees.
βIf you have the money, assist your husband. Contribute to whatever he has to pay school fees, donβt hoard the moneyβ, she said.
She also used the occasion to challenge women, especially the widows in society, to take their place, urging them to fight every form of societal barrier and become captains of industry.
In his speech, the Vice Chancellor of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Professor Maduebibisi Iwe, warned that the presence of Artificial Intelligence in the world today should never erode the place of women in families and society at large.
