Oluchi Oparah, the suspended National Treasurer of the Labour Party, has presented images of buildings, alleging that they belong to the National Chairman of the party, Abure.
In an interview with AIT, Oparah claimed that these properties were acquired using party funds. It would be recalled that Oparah, had previously accused Abure of mishandling 3.5 billion naira and that led to her suspension as treasurer of the party.
Expressing her concerns, Oparah revealed that she had been raising these issues for seven months, seeking external auditing due to discrepancies in the party’s accounts. She said even the respected national leader of the party urged Abure to address the issues however, Abure rejected the proposal for an external audit.
In Oparah’s words: “These are Abure’s buildings, before 2023 he never had any of these buildings.
These are the Labour Party’s money, they can go and verify. I have written letters for the past seven months and we have met on these issues.
Even our national leader who is well respected for his integrity has been in our meeting four or five times telling the national chairman of the Labour Party that there is a need for him to do the needful.
What am I asking for? Can we get an external auditor to come and audit the account since there are discrepancies here and there and he said no”.
