In a late-night development, President Bola Tinubu is engaging in crucial talks with Ondo State Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, at Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, aimed at resolving the escalating leadership crisis in the state.
The meeting, which commenced at 9:45 p.m., swiftly transitioned into a closed-door session as the President specified that only individuals from Ondo State should be present in the Banquet Hall.
Over 50 attendees, including lawmakers, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s aides, and the Deputy Governor’s aides, were observed, highlighting the significance of the discussions. Notable figures present encompassed Senators representing Ondo North (Jide Ipinsagba), South (Jimoh Ibrahim), and Central Districts (Adeniyi Adegbonmire).
Members of the House of Representatives from Ondo state, such as John Odimayo, Kimikanboh Ojogo, Festus Adefiranye, Olanrewaju Akingbaso, Abiodun Adesida, Adejoro Adeogun, Abiola Makinde, and Adelegbe Oluwatimehin, were also in attendance, along with State Commissioners, party leaders, and elders.
The late-night joint session followed a prior four-hour meeting between the President and an earlier group of stakeholders from Ondo State, including Senators. This development transpired just two days after Ondo State Elders and Leaders urgently appealed to President Tinubu to intervene in the constitutional crisis to prevent a potential law and order breakdown.
The elders, represented by Reuben Fasontanti and Bakkita Bello, urged the President to ensure discipline within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and implored the State House of Assembly not to proceed with the impeachment of either the Governor or the Deputy Governor.
Concurrently, President Tinubu issued an order for the police to withdraw from the Ondo State House of Assembly premises in Akure, signaling the high stakes involved in the ongoing political turmoil in the state.
