The economic hardship caused by the removal of fuel subsidy has grossly affected commercial sex workers in Kano State as they have been complaining about low patronage by their customers.
They expressed their pains while fielding questions from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sabon Gari area of Fagge Local Government Area of the state on Sunday, August 27.
They say that the high cost of transportation has made it difficult for their customers to come to them, and that they are now having to charge much lower prices for their services.
One sex worker, Mercy Benjamin, said that she used to charge N5,000 for a short-time service, but now she is only charging N500 to N700.
Another sex worker who identified herself as Jennifer, told NAN that it is no longer business as usual for them, saying “my brother, business is no longer moving as it used to be.
Jennifer, said that she used to see seven to three customers a day, but now she is lucky to see three.
There is a particular room, I pay N5,000 every day; and I must confess to you that am owing the management three days debt now because of low patronage, she added.
The sex workers say that the removal of fuel subsidy has had a devastating impact on their businesses.
