TO EMPOWER 30,000 FARMERS WITH FARMING TOOLS
Niger State Governor, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago has disclosed that the State Government is to spend N3b on palliatives to cushion the effect of subsidy removal.
It was gathered that Governor Umaru Bago disclosed this at the closing of a two-day retreat organized for Commissioners, members of the State House of Assembly, Special Advisers, Local Government Council Chairmen, and Heads of MDAs held in Suleja.
Governor Bago explained that each ward in Chanchaga, Bida, Suleja, and Kontagora local government areas are to receive N20m, while the remaining wards in 21 local government areas are to get N10m each.
The money according to the Governor, is to be used in purchasing food items at the Ward level for onward distribution to the people at the grassroots.
Meanwhile, the Niger State Governor, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago has said that 30,000 farmers in the State will be empowered with farming tools as part of his administration’s Agricultural transformation.
A statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Bologi Ibrahim said Governor Bago who stated this at the close of a two day retreat organised for Commissioners, SSAs, Local Government Council Chairmen and House of Assembly members reiterated that the State Government remains resolute in improving the Agriculture sector in the State and will provide all the necessary facilities for farmers to boost the sector.
Fertilizers, other Agro- allied chemicals as well as basic farming tools are expected to be distributed to the 30,000 beneficiaries next week.
He said a Committee will be set up in that regard for immediate implementation.
Speaking on the retreat, the Governor charged participants to be proactive in revenue generation adding that, revenue is what the State needs to drive its developmental plans.
Governor Umaru Bago observed that no lofty idea will be meaningful without available funds hence, every stakeholder in governance must be aggressive and intentional about revenue generation so as to meet the demands of the citizens.
The Board Chairman, Niger State Internal Revenue Service, Mohammed Madami Etsu at the event appreciated the Governor for his foresight and assured him that the Revenue Service will work assiduously to help in achieving set targets.
