A suspected ritualist who allegedly specialized in stealing children for rituals purpose has been nabbed and set on fire by a mob in Lapai Niger State.
It was gathered that the suspect was mobbed by some people who arrested him with two girls in Lapai town in Lapai.
Sources revealed that the suspect identified as Sule Sakon Kano was allegedly apprehended with the two minors aged between four years old and five years old.
Confirming the case, the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer Wasiu Abiodun said, “We received information that an unidentified person was accused of stealing a baby around the burial ground area of Lapai.
He explained “On the receipt of the information, DPO Lapai mobilized and led a patrol team to the scene, but before the police arrived at the scene, an irate mob armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons had beaten the suspect to a coma and set him ablaze.”
DSP Wasiu said efforts were made to put off the fire and rescue him, but he was burnt beyond recognition, and the body was later evacuated to the general hospital in Lapai.
The PPRO said the commissioner of Police, Ogundele Ayodeji, ordered an investigation into the incident while urging members of the public to desist from resorting to self-help and report incidents to the police for immediate action.
