With two days to the Presidential and National Assembly elections, critical stakeholders and groups have continued to endorse Governor Samuel Ortom for the Benue North-West Senatorial District seat.
The stakeholders and groups also pledged to follow whatever direction Governor Ortom would give them on who to vote for in the 2023 general election both in the state and at the national level.
The latest groups who converged on Benue Peoples House, Makurdi Wednesday, February 22nd, 2023 include: the Benue Motorcycle Association, BEMOA, Interparty Advisory Council, IPAC, Yoruba as well as the South-South Communities in Benue State.
The groups separately and jointly passed a vote of confidence on Governor Ortom and pledged to work for his election to the Senate after his tenure as Benue State Governor.
They ddeclared that they had sensitized their members and were ready to vote for Governor Ortom to emerge victorious at the polls.
They also pledged to vote Rt. Hon Titus Uba as the next Governor of the state, Peter Obi for President and all the PDP candidates in the State that Governor Ortom have recommended to them.
They noted that the Governor is a patriot with the interest of the country at heart and should be supported by all men of good conscience.
According to the group leaders, their decision was a mark of solidarity with Governor Ortom for his dogged stance against the oppression and marginalization of his people.
President of BEMOA, Mr. Matthew Nyiutsa and Chairman of IPAC, Hon. Ibrahim Idoko-Otene stated that the Governor Ortom’s decision to stand with Mr. Obi to emerge the next President of Nigeria showed the Governor’s belief in the oneness of the country.
They affirmed the Governor’s commitment to the cause of equity, justice and fairness.
On their part, leader of the Yoruba Community in Benue, Chief Adeyemi Apampa and President of South-South Community in the state, Mr. Michael Achor hailed the many milestones recorded by Governor Ortom’s leadership.
They acknowledged the Governor’s achievements in security, health, education sectors as well as infrastructure, particularly in road construction, stating that the Governor’s friendship with the Southerners also endeared him to them hence their resolve to vote for him to proceed to the Senate.
Governor Ortom in his response, expressed gratitude to the stakeholders for pledging to support him and their readiness to work with his recommendation to vote, Mr Obi as the next President and all other candidates of the PDP in the elections.
The Governor particularly commended the Yoruba and South-South communities in Benue for their peaceful coexistence with the people, stating that they have impacted positively on the socio-economic development of the state and urged them to sustain the spirit of oneness.
He also lauded BEMOA for their drive towards economic sustainability and encouraged them to support the security agencies to curb criminality in the state.
Governor Ortom used the moment to reiterate his appeal to Nigerians to remain calm despite the hardships they were facing as a result of the currency redesign policy.
He particularly appealed to youths to restrain themselves from causing destruction to public facilities or burning down banks but rather protest by voting out the APC-led Government.
